Whoa. Katrina did that? Imagine what the tsunami did to dozens of towns along the coasts then... Made phonebooks nonexistent perhaps.
Although a comment left by one of the visitors does make sense... It could partially be due to the fact that an increasing number of people are getting mobile phones, which are typically not listed in phonebooks. But still... dude!!!

And it's really more because of the tsunami. I think the moible phone impact would be negligible
the Wikipedia Article about it is pretty interresting
and I agree with Ms Ziggy, that the mobile phones are probably just a minor fact. You can't forget that ca 80% of the city were flooded, some quarters remain unhabitable until today (because of poisoning chemical substances in the ground)
It could very well be, that quite a few inhabitants left the city for good...
